Cadillac's entry level model, the CTS, has been restyled, re-powered and given new options for the 2008 model year. It comes with new drivetrains and a more modern interior as well.
Power comes from two variations of GM's 3.6 litre V6 engine. The standard 263 horsepower unit is highly regarded for smoothness and efficiency, and utilizes variable cam timing for a versatile and step-less powercurve. When equipped with direct injection, power jumps to 304 horses. That's impressive output, especially considering drivers needn't feed it expensive premium fuel.
Power is delivered to the rear, or optionally to all four wheels by a six-speed transmission in either automatic or manual, depending on the driver's preference. This marks the first CTS to be available as an all wheel drive. Its grip on the road is also enhanced by a wider rear track, as well as Stabilitrack- GM's stability control system.
CTS comes available with a selection of high tech features including adaptive headlights, Keyless Access, and touch-screen navigation. It's also designed to enhance safety with a segment-first dual depth front passenger air bag, dual-stage driver's front air bag, driver and front passenger side seat-mounted airbags and roof-rail side curtain airbags.
The 2008 CTS carries a starting price of $38,900 with the standard V6 engine, and $41,400 with the high-output direct-injection 304 horsepower model. The all new CTS arrives in dealer lots next month.
